What is the Vince Klein Run like a Superhero Memorial 5K?

Vince Klein was a hero to Open Door Youth Services serving on our Board for over 30 years and championing education in Floyd County for even longer. We run to celebrate his life and to continue to change the lives of children in Floyd County and Southern Indiana.

Do I have to run or can I walk?

You can absolutely walk! You can run, walk, roll, or jump your way through the race! We invite everyone to participate.
However; this is a timed race, so we ask those that are running for time to move to the front and those walking move towards the back.

What time should I get there?

We recommend getting there between an hour or 45 minutes before the race IF you have not already registered OR picked up your packet. We WILL be starting right at 9:00am. Registration closes at 8:00am.

Where should I park?

There are ample places to park within the park itself, including a lot near shelter #1 which is where race registration will be!

Is there a price increase?

Yes, the earlier you register the more money you will save!
Race registration is $15 before January 1st, 2018, you can also save $2 by using the promo code SUPERHERO17 until January 1st!

Registration increases to $20 on January 1st, 2018 and ends on March 20th.

Registration March 21st to April 14th and on race day will be $25 and we cannot guarantee a t-shirt with these registrations.

 

How can I save money?

Can I register the morning of the race?

Yes! However we will stop day-of paper registration at 8:00am so get here early!

 

Is this a timed race?
Yes, however, this race is about celebrating Vince and having a wonderful time as a community so we encourage all participants and levels of fitness.

 

What is the course length?

This is a 5 kilometer race, or 3.1 miles however, if you cannot complete the full race it is okay to turn around please just let our staff at the finish line know so we can accurately award color group finishers.

 

Can I bring a stroller, wheelchair or furry friend to run with me?
Yes! However, we ask that you are aware of your surroundings and other runners and move toward the outter parts of the course  and keep your pets on a leash. We reserve the right to ask a participant to move off the official race course if their pet is hindering others from moving along the course. There are also no ramps leading to the course from the public parking lot, please let us know if you need special parking accomodations and we will help!

 

Can kids participate?

Absolutely! This run is about benefitting kids, we encourage kids and families of all sizes and ages to come run with us!

 

Is there a bag check?

Unfortunately as this time we cannot accomodate a bag check and are not responsible for lost or stolen items while you are at our race. We encourage you to lock all personal belongings in your vehicle prior to the race.

 

Where is lost and found?

Please check the registration table in the event something gets lost.

What happens if it rains?

We will run rain or shine, we cannot offer refunds to participants in the event the race is cancelled for weather or other emergency, for questions please see our official race waiver.

Where is packet pick-up?

Packet pick-up information will become available closer to race day!
